Richardson FEMTOUCH™ Vaginal Rejuvenation

With normal aging, many women start noticing symptoms related to their vaginal health that can negatively affect their lifestyle. Nearly 50% of post-menopausal women suffer from stress urinary incontinence and nearly 80% suffer from some degree of vaginal atrophy resulting in various symptoms such as vaginal dryness, itchiness, or burning, pain while having sex, and mild vaginal prolapse.

Many women who have undergone childbirth will also experience symptoms related to vaginal laxity which can have a severe impact on their sexual satisfaction. Vaginal laxity can lead to decreased sensation and sensitivity during intercourse. Many wrongly think this is the norm and nothing can be done to improve this situation, that this is part of the aging process.

FEMTOUCH™ Vaginal Rejuvenation by Lumenis is a non-hormonal, laser-based vaginal rejuvenation treatment with the ability to fully restore vaginal tissue while improving vaginal health-related conditions. Some of the benefits of FemTouch include thicker tissue, increased natural lubrication, enhanced sexual pleasure, increased elasticity, and a decrease in urinary incontinence.

How Does The FemTouch Laser Work?

FEMTOUCH™ Vaginal Rejuvenation procedures are safe, quick, virtually painless, and require no downtime. FemTouch applies laser energy directly to internal vaginal tissue in order to restore it back to a normal healthy functioning state. The FemTouch probe is inserted into the vagina to focus fractional CO2 laser beams along the entire vaginal wall. The laser creates tiny controlled micro-injuries in order to promote the remodeling of the vaginal mucous epithelium layer (vaginal lining) stimulating the regeneration of new vaginal tissue by triggering collagen production.

Improved Sexual Functioning

FEMTOUCH™ Vaginal Rejuvenation treatments have been shown to improve sexual satisfaction in women. The FemTouch laser reverses vaginal dryness which in turn reduces uncomfortable or painful sexual intercourse. Rejuvenated vaginal tissue can also increase sexual pleasure and satisfaction for both the woman and her partner.

How Many FemTouch Treatments Will I Need?

Most patients will need 3 FEMTOUCH™ Vaginal Rejuvenation treatment sessions (spaced about a month apart a week following the patient’s menstrual cycle) to realize their desired final results. If urinary incontinence is being treated, a fourth treatment will be needed. Treatments take only a few minutes to perform. Patients are then recommended to undergo a once-yearly maintenance treatment to upkeep their vaginal health.

Is There Downtime?

Laser vaginal rejuvenation requires no downtime or recovery time and women can get right back to normal daily activities. Patients should refrain from intercourse for 24 hours following their FemTouch treatment. There is no special aftercare required; however, the patient should avoid direct heat exposure, such as a hot shower or sauna, for 24 hours.

Is the Procedure Painful?

While a FEMTOUCH™ Vaginal Rejuvenation procedure is not painful, some patients may experience minor pressure similar to a vaginal exam.

Is the Procedure Covered by my Insurance? If Not, How Much Does it Cost?

The FEMTOUCH™ Vaginal Rejuvenation procedure is not covered by any insurance plans at this time. The cost is $1,000 per treatment. If all three treatments are paid for at the first treatment, the discounted cost is $2,700 (this also applies for the 4th treatment for stress urinary incontinence – $3,600).

Treating Stress Urinary Incontinence with Femtouch

Millions of women experience a variety of problems stemming from pre-pregnancy, post-delivery, and menopause. Each of these normal stages of life can take a toll on our bodies, particularly the vaginal area. One of the most common issues that affect women is stress urinary incontinence, sometimes referred to as “SUI”.

What Is Stress Urinary Incontinence?

According to the Mayo Clinic, SUI is the unintentional loss of urine that typically coincides with physical movement or activity such as coughing, sneezing, running, or heavy lifting. These activities put pressure (stress) on your bladder which can cause it to leak.
An estimated 15 million adult women in the United States suffer from some degree of stress urinary incontinence. This roughly equates to 24% of women between the ages of 18 and 44 and 23% of women over the age of 60.
Stress urinary incontinence can be very embarrassing, to the point where the quality of life for many sufferers is negatively affected. SUI can limit both physical and leisure activity and cause some women to socially isolate themselves.

What Causes SUI?

While pregnancy and childbirth are the leading cause of SUI, there are other contributing factors which can include:

  • loss of pelvic muscle tone
  • hysterectomy
  • nerve and muscle damage from birthing or surgical trauma
  • obesity
  • menopause
  • chronic coughing due to smoking and lung disease
  • anatomical predisposition
  • repeated heavy lifting or high impact sports

Do I Have SUI?

Unfortunately, most women who suffer from some form of stress urinary incontinence often fail to properly address it. In a survey, the National Association for Incontinence found that women wait an average of 6.5 years from the time they first experience the symptoms to be properly diagnosed and receive treatment. The key symptom of stress urinary incontinence is unwanted urine leakage of any amount, from a few drops to a tablespoon or more. Mild SUI sufferers typically experience leaks during forceful physical activities while moderate to severe SUI results in leaks from normal activities like standing or walking.

Important Questions About SUI

If your answer to any of the following questions is “yes” we recommend seeking treatment as there are many ways to manage SUI:

  • Have you stopped exercising due to fear of a leakage?
  • Do you feel uncomfortable about your body?
  • Do you avoid sexual intercourse because you are worried you may leak?
  • Do you often carry a change of clothes around?
  • Are you afraid to leave the house and/or be too far from a bathroom?
  • Have you changed the way you live because you’re afraid of potential urine leakage?

Treating Stress Urinary Incontinence

FEMTOUCH™ Vaginal Rejuvenation is a non-ablative CO2 laser that is used to treat SUI. The applicator of the FemTouch laser is inserted into the vaginal canal and creates microscopic holes into the vaginal lining. This triggers the natural healing process to occur where the old tissue is replaced by new healthy tissue, healing from the inside out. This new tissue provides a lining underneath the bladder so that the wall becomes thicker and more vascular. This will give the bladder the support it needs so that the bladder won’t leak. It also will tighten the tissue around the urethra and increase vascularity in that area to re-enforce the bladder not to leak while engaging in physical activity such as coughing, sneezing, running, jumping and heavy lifting.

In addition to addressing stress urinary incontinence, FemTouch helps with other issues relating to vaginal health including vaginal atrophy and urinary tract infections.

Here’s What Some of Our Patients Are Saying About Femtouch

I am a midlife, menopausal, active woman with the normal problems that go along with this stage of life. The stress incontinence and vaginal dryness that had put such a damper on every aspect of my life, including being intimate with my husband of 43 years, was really getting to be a downer. That is why I am so excited about the results of my Fem Touch treatments. After my Fem Touch treatment, I have been able to participate in the “Family Dance Off” with my grandkids and increase my work out at the gym without wearing a panty liner. Normally, the cough that I had between Christmas and New Year would have stopped me from going to parties or restricted what color slacks I would wear due to the fear of leakage … Not this year, ladies! I spent New Year’s Eve, laughing and bowling all night without fear of any “embarrassing moments.” And that dry, painful intercourse with the hubs?? NO MORE!!! The ability for both myself and my husband to feel “comfortable” again in the bedroom is wonderful. We have started having “date night” again and the sparks are flying!! Don’t let yourself get stuck in that dull rut just because of how your body reacts to aging. Consider Fem Touch and get back to living life!!

I have had two FemTouch treatments and I am so glad I went through with this procedure! I began to look into FemTouch because I was experiencing urinary incontinence, lack of orgasm, and pigmentation changes “down there”. It was the easiest procedure I have ever done and you would think it wouldn’t be. Dr. Salter was very professional and made me feel so comfortable during the entire procedure. I did both the internal and external treatment. I had creamed applied numbed up for about 15-20 minutes before the procedure and didn’t feel anything. The entire treatment was a breeze from start to finish. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I needed to! I am very happy with the results! I plan to maintain my results with another treatment in 6 months to a year.

I am very pleased with the FemTouch treatment. For years, my urologist has been concerned about my recurrent UTI’s, vaginal atrophy and multiple allergies to medicines. I have had also had dryness and discomfort of the vagina and vulva. My family doctor said that I am a good candidate for FemTouch. Dr. Salter explained the treatments thoroughly, answered all my questions, and performed all the treatments, and monitored my progress carefully. I opted for both the internal and the external treatments. Everything went very well. There was only the slightest discomfort and pink discharge for a few hours after each treatment. By the end of that same day, the area felt more moist and comfortable than it had in years. Tissues that the urologist had described as “brick red” became pink again. Skin that was loose tightened up again. I have had no UTI’s since the FemTouch treatment. Thank you, Dr. Salter. After my 1st FemTouch treatment, I had lubrication within 1 week and my urinary incontinence had got better. Still had some dryness/itching during intercourse up to 2 weeks after treatment, but no pain during intercourse. After 2nd FemTouch treatment more lubrication, urinary incontinence completely gone. Healing time was longer and still had dryness/itching during intercourse up till it was time for my 3rd treatment. No pain and more sensation during intercourse. My husband has definitely noticed the difference too, I think he’s even told some friends. I know I’ve told my friends the difference FemTouch has made in our marriage and my life.
