Minimally Invasive Surgery – Robotic Surgery
The da Vinci Robotic Surgical System – Minimally Invasive Surgery
The da Vinci surgery system (da Vinci® Hysterectomy) is a robotic-assisted method that allows for a major surgical procedure to be done with much smaller incisions than traditional surgery. All three of our physicians are certified da Vinci robotic surgeons, giving our patients the opportunity to quickly recover and return to normal activities. In fact, our physicians were a few of the very first to be certified in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
The da Vinci Surgical System is designed to provide surgeons with enhanced capabilities, including high-definition 3D vision and a magnified view. Your doctor controls the da Vinci System, which translates his or her hand movements into more precise movements of tiny instruments inside your body.
Though it is often called a “robot,” da Vinci cannot act on its own: Instead, the surgery is performed entirely by your doctor, allowing them to perform complex procedures through just a few tiny openings. As a result, you get back to life faster.
For most patients, da Vinci Hysterectomy can offer numerous potential health care benefits over traditional approaches to vaginal, laparoscopic or open abdominal hysterectomy, particularly when performing more challenging procedures like radical hysterectomy for gynecologic cancer.
Potential Women’s Healthcare Benefits:
- Significantly less pain
- Less blood loss
- Fewer complications
- Less scarring
- A shorter hospital stay
- A faster return to normal daily activities
Da Vinci Provides Surgeon with Superior Surgical Tools
Da Vinci provides the surgeon with a superior surgical tools for dissection and removal of lymph nodes during cancer operations. Da Vinci Hysterectomies also allow your surgeon a distinct advantage when performing a complex hysterectomy involving adhesions (scar tissue) from previous pelvic infections, prior pelvic or lower abdominal surgery, endometriosis, a non-localized cancer, by providing a better visualization on interior anatomy.
As each surgery is both patient and procedure specific, these benefits cannot all be guaranteed. While any gynecologic surgery performed by a certified da Vinci surgeon using the da Vinci Surgical System is considered safe and effective, they may not be appropriate for every individual. Always ask your AOA doctor about all treatment options, as well as their risks and benefits.
Since sometimes medication and non-invasive procedures are unable to relieve certain gynecological symptoms, surgery remains the accepted and most effective treatment for a range of gynecologic conditions.

Videos Showing the da Vinci Robotic-Assisted Surgery
These videos showcase the precise abilities of da Vinci robotic surgery through the simple tasks of peeling a grape and making origami.
While clinical studies support the effectiveness of the da Vinci® System when used in minimally invasive surgery, individual results may vary. Surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System may not be appropriate for every individual. Always ask your doctor about all treatment options, as well as their risks and benefits.
