We are excited to be able to offer this new technology to my patients in their evaluation of abnormal pap smears. We have been using the DySIS™ Advanced Cervical Imaging System for about two months now and have been very impressed with sensitivity of the DySIS map – a color-coded scan that assists in identifying abnormal areas to biopsy. So far, we have been able to identify 3-4 higher grade lesions than was appreciated on normal colposcopy. It is like having a first and second opinion performed at the same office visit.
Advanced Ob-Gyn Associates is one of first physician offices nationwide to offer this state-of-the-art testing, although the device is installed in over 100 centers in Europe and has been recommended by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence in the UK.
Each year more than 12,000 U.S. women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and the diagnostic procedure (colposcopy) used after an abnormal Pap smear has not changed since the 1920s – until now.
The DySISTM Advanced Cervical Imaging System provides doctors with a color-coded map – somewhat like a Doppler weather map. DySIS uses a patented technology called Dynamic Spectral Imaging to highlight areas of the cervix that may need further investigation with a biopsy. You will be able to see this map and our physician can discuss the changes and compare previous DySIS if present.
Early detection of pre-cancerous areas ensures earlier treatment while lesions are small and can prevent the need for more invasive procedures.
